Poster idea 4

Continuing the band/tour poster ideas, this was the only one that was done on the computer alone.I want to expand on this, and am sketching up ideas for it. I will post later to show progress. My idea was taking the organic feel of the music along with the obviously (in some cases) layered and textured effects and combining them.

For an idea of the bands/the direction, check these links.

Infographic Poster (from November)

I set out to create a loud, obnoxious infographic about music and noise. My only debate is whether the font fits, or whether the colors compete too much with the image. Perhaps I've been looking at it for too long.

Poster #3

I really wanted to experiment with handwritten, illustrated text and came up with this.
Contrary to popular belief, my only inspiration for this was 4 years of sobriety, cheesy comedies and a little bit of P-Funk.

Took me forever to settle on the colors.

Oxbow poster

This poster originally had a hand-written quote all around it, but I didn't like how it came out. I experimented with a different style than I usually do, but too many different ideas made the poster look unfinished and "wrong", rather than the idea I originally had.

I like this, but I feel that something else needs to be done with it. Either go over the type in the background more or make it smaller and add a lot to it. The idea I have is to take the idea of he album name NARCOTIC STORY and add the song names as someone would write them in a journal. After some experimenting, I feel that this fits better than anything thus far, but I'm willing to look into more fonts.

Not trying to make this appear too "cartoony," while retaining the illustrative quality.

Tour Poster 1

This is an idea for a poster I got while looking through a book of Japanese artwork that a friend got me. I chose to do a hand-written type of ink text to the poster to try to give that idea of japanese calligraphy without using Japanese characters.

It's a poster for an experimental NYC band
bloody panda (http://www.myspace.com/bpanda),
with Isis (http://www.myspace.com/isis),
Sun for Miles (my band - www.myspace.com/sfmdoom),
and a friends band - Echoes of Yul (http://www.myspace.com/echoesofyul).
Not a real tour, but one can dream.

I was going to add color to the illustrations, but I ended up really liking the tri color (black, white, red) approach. Any input is appreciated.

New BW / Type only posters

Update* I added this ^ one because the first was bothering me for some reason. I like this new font I tried out (mamma gamma), but I don't know if the arrangement is working well enough.

So I wanted to take a different approach for these.
The first two (what does your day...) I like the most, but I'm not sure if the lines of the circles are competing with"DAY" in the second one too much. For the third, I wanted to keep it simple, to fit with the quoted text. The bar of text in the background in the last one are all the performers playing this show. I tried to keep all of these posters from overloading the page with huge type since I usually do that and wanted to explore different methods.

invitation

I did a 2 sided 7"x4" postcard type invitation.
The black background = front.
The grey background = back.

Another idea

Well, it finally let me upload a file. This was another ideas I came up with when I saw the article "Science shows noise causes indigestion." I'm not sure if the RELAX stands out enough, but I'm kind of hoping for a magic-eye effect.

...

More ideas I have... blogspot still doesn't want to let me upload them, so they'll probably be cropped incorrectly until you click on them. I wanted to see the difference between using some color and none in this idea.

Poster display problems

Adding more posters. If you view them please try to downsize them in your browser. My computer sound like someone is cooking popcorn in the hard drive when I try to re-size, and blogspot isn't letting me upload directly. So only part of the image is displaying.

Posters!

A few posters for the latest assignment.
Will be uploading more, as my computer allows it.

revised

Revision.
Since I wa a bit behind on the last assignment, or rather ahead, but behind...(?) I kind of incorporated both the previous exercise and the current assignment into one. The only issue I have is that it makes it look less cohesive than I'd like, but overall I like what I've done, though I had to fight back the urge to cram an excess of type in.

The Subject...The ideas (thus far)

The Subject: Sound as Art

I got a bit ahead of myself with the imagery and especially the imagery using color in the other one, but I feel like I got a few ideas brewing up in my head of out it at least. I'm trying to use fonts with character (no pun intended), though I don't want the fonts to do all the talking for the subject.
Sound as art.
Noise as music. Dissonant tones.
Improv. Jazz. Punk.
Creation vs Destruction.
Organic vs Mechanic.

The basic ideas of what direction I want to take on wth this project, BUT... I want to approach it in a "classy" way? If that makes any sense? I tend to overload, and with a subject like this, it might be needed, but not in excess, of course.
